My heart's overflowing, I'm walking on high
I feel so elated, though I didn't try
I didn't plan I didn't scheme
I didn't solve any problems
I didn't strain I didn't strive
I didn't climb any mountains
I didn't gain knowledge or break any ground
I just simply sat with the Lord
I don't understand why I'm so full of peace
I've found a contentment that never will cease
It isn't learned it isn't earned
It's not an object of trade
It isn't taught it can't be bought
It doesn't wear out or fade
It isn't won by hard striving; it's the gift of his love
It comes from my time with the Lord
I no longer need to be anxious for gain
I don't need success; I can do without fame
I'm welcome in to be with him
His love has no limit
I needn't rush I needn't push
I don't have to win it
Whenever I want I can come back again
And treasure my time with the Lord.
I've found a contentment that comes from inside
My ambitions are smaller; my needs are supplied
I'm not alone I feel at home
I have peace in my heart
My God is near I have no fear
And I'll tell you the start -
It comes from those times when I linger with him
And just simply sit with the Lord.

This song picks up from Luke10:39 "Mary
sat at Jesus'
feet, and heard his word". The song senses the delight that she felt
from that unique experience. She has spent quality time with Jesus
and overflows with delight and excitement; she experiences a spiritual
"high".
The song reflects on the grace of God in giving such access
to an ordinary human being. How can we enter his presence without
doing something special to earn the privilege? But that's how it
is and how it will remain for anyone who enters that way. It is
delightful. It is undeserved. It is free. It is lasting. And, once
experienced, it changes the way we see the world.
Contrast this with Martha's anguished searching in her song
"Lord, I can't pray"
