I hear you Lord
I know your voice
The call is love
But the path is sacrifice
Isn't there another way?
Is this what I must do?
Can't I go another day?
Father
It costs so much to follow you
I gave my all…
To do your work…
And now Your call…
(Means) I must sacrifice it all.
Can't I see the mission through?
There's such a lot to lose.
What will my disciples do, Father?
If this goes as I suppose.
The call is love
So take my hand
.
And help me prove
(That) I can rise to love's demand.

This song imagines Jesus pondering and praying over the implications
of the call to heal Lazarus, which meant going back to Judea and
risking the end of his ministry.
John 7:1 says, "After this, Jesus went around in Galilee,
purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting
to take his life"; but something happened to change his mind.
Lazarus, one of his dearest friends lay dying in Bethany, just outside
Jerusalem. The anxious message from Lazarus's sisters was "the
call of love", which compelled Jesus to abandon caution and
go back to hostile Judea, where he would be crucified.
Jesus knew what would happen in Judea and he waited in Galilee
for two more days before making that fateful journey. He would have
spent some of that time praying Perhaps his prayer was like this?
